In this newest and latest creation of America's favorite good guy, Superman, Superman-Man of Steel - starring Henry Cavill and Amy Adams, there are spared no expenses in twisting and bending major lengths of beams forged of the very metal that made this comic book hero.  It is dashing and darting, fun, and very destructive.  Is director, Zack Snyder's, endorsement of " he who will save the humans of earth" this summers' blockbuster?  No, but it satisfies on many scales and is good enough to pair with a cool, crisp, summertime wine.

The storyline of this new, Superman, is presented very well.  It is in-depth and delves into the history and making of, both, Superman and bad guy, Zods' lives and lays provision for a solid plot from one's birth to the others' death.  I, also,  found the cinematography quite exceptional from the scenes in outer space, to the farm where Superman was raised, to the big city.  Great color schemes and an eye for quality settings was on board this production.

It is in the big city, however, where I find failure in this film.  I guess, really, where else are we going to have really intense fighting scenes whilst we bite our nails as buildings collapse around pitiful humans who are, seemingly, too stupid to get out of the way of an intergalactic war?  But, does it, always, have to be New York City?  Wasn't  9/11, enough?  Let's take it to Beijing and blow the crap out of that place for once.  I'm just saying....

Regardless, when the fuse in this movie is lit, the bombs start blasting and the fighting gets very hot, very fast.  This film may take the record for laying waste to more property and buildings over history's title holder, Transformers.  Huge bashing and thundering and smashing definitely left the audience as if it had just walked out of  good Universal Studios simulation ride.

Of greater importance and depth, however, is how we are pulled into the human tale of the lost hero much to that which would be explained by one of my heroes, the late, Joseph Campbell.  There is hardship, there is adversity, there is sadness.  There are broken families and, in the end, there are saved lives and a hero that has found purpose through the tribulations of life - even if he isn't human.

What wine would i pair, best, for a heated and highly-charged, summertime battle?  A cold wine glass in your hand filled with  the Petaluma GAP's finest, 2010 Keller Estate Oro de Plata Chardonnay.  It is cool, crisp and clean in all of its' Burgundian style - as the best Chardonnays for food in the world are made.  Bright and floral but, fashioned in stainless steel, just like our savior,Superman.
